YOUTH AWARENESS PROGRAMME -- WALKESHWAR SAMITI , 2010 - 2011

The youth of Walkeshwar Samiti in conjunction with the students from the HR College of Commerce & Economics, put a Drama show for the slum children of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Vidyaniketan.

Prior to this 2 lectures were also conducted at the college for the students

The event was held on Sunday, 6th of Feb 2011 at the Kamla Nehru Park Amphitheatre, Malabar Hill. It was an interactive show wherein the children were divided into 5 teams - Satya, Dharma, Shanti, Prem & Ahimsa. (the 5 pillars of Bhagavan). Each team performed on the following topics:

1) Time waste is life waste
2) The hands that serve are holier than the lips that pray.
3) Love is giving and forgiving, self is getting and forgetting

The show started with the school children singing sarva dharma bhajans making the atmosphere positively charged. At the end of every theme the audience would vote for the team performance that they liked the best.

In preparation for the show we visited the college, and interacted with the students couple of times and briefed them about school in which our youth carried out regular activities . They were also familiarized with Bhagawan's teachings (i.e. topics for the skits) trough stories based on them, and discussions on the same. During the month preceding the final show everyday the students of HR College interacted with the school children familiarized them with the stories and scripts that they had decided on for each theme, assigned roles and practiced dialogue delivery and action, with their team members.

The program was entirely in English, and hence the HR volunteers had to be very patient with, and encourage the students to work on their English dialogues.

The whole exercise was aimed at getting the children proficient in English and building their confidence to perform in front of a live audience. Also, as Bhagawan says His life is His message, the aim of this was also to spread His message across to everyone.

In turn, values like patience, perseverance, team work, cooperation , dedication and discipline were also encouraged and enforced amongst the children as well as the student volunteers.
