Sports Day Invitation - 24th December 2010 - by Walkeshwar Samithi
We work with the children of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Vidyaniketan, a school for slum children located at Walkeshwar, from KG to Std. 4 The aim of this project is to develop a spirit of healthy competition and sportsmanship between the children, culminating in a sports day. The task of the volunteers, thus, was to train the children for the sports day The children were broken up class-wise, and different types of races were assigned to each class, dependent on their ability and difficulty level. Each class volunteer diligently made the children of his or her assigned class, practice these races, in preparation for the final day. (Races like the Marble and Spoon Race, the Sack Race or the Bunny Hop, maybe common to us, but alien to most of these children, and hence regular practice was most necessary). The children of the third and fourth
standards also did a march-past. courtesy: Walkeshwar Samithi |
