DIVINE NO.9

When the little 'i', ego, takes its strides to the centre-stage, there is bound to be trouble, the trouble of losing out, losing out of ego. Illustrating an interesting tale of a bunch of egos, belonging to a village Numbers Knotsville, the dance-drama in this auspicious Ashadi evening brought forth the ever unbounded significance and glory of the number 9, presenting yet another 'glo...ry'ous tale of Indian Culture and Spirituality.

An argument broke out among 10 village friends at Number Knotsville, as to who betters the rest. From 0 to 1 to 8, all members argued back and forth claiming to be the best. As the dispute turned ugly and unending the matter was referred to a Wizard from India lived at Ganit Gram.

The Wizard was straight forth in seeking the presence of No.9, who, according to the others was calm and serene, quite an 'unfit' to get into their arguments. The Wizard opened up, projecting the Number 9 as the real hero, and thus the storyline for this evening.

Even as the Wizard continued taking a leaf out of traditional and scriptural references, stories galore broke open brining in scenes from various referential points of greater significance of 9, namely, Navaratri, Navarasa, Navaratna, Nava-vidha Bhakti, Navagraha and the Nine-Point Code Of Conduct, concluding finally with Bhagawan's own statement on Number 9, Who hailed It as Brahman, It being constant...Sat Chit Anand. Interludes of referential explanation brought forth beautiful song and dance sequences alongside skits from the scriptures.

At the end as greater understanding and unity prevailed, leaving the ego to naught, the group converged at the centre-stage singing in unison the song, “SAI WE ARE NINE… SAI YOU ARE MINE…”
The multimedia aided presentation turned out to be a ‘glory’ous’ tale projecting Bharat’s ever limitless cultural-traditional glory.

Bhajans next ended with Mangala Arathi at 1800 hrs. bringing the curtain down for the three-day Ashadi Ekadashi celebrations.

Marata Flavour on Prasanthi Ashadi Morning…

Today is holy Ashadi Ekadashi… and on this auspicious morning in Prasanthi Nilayam, Maratha’s proud Peshwa City, Pune came to the fore presenting a riveting Palki dance, setting the beautiful Prasanthi Ashadi 2017 story in motion.

Setting the proceedings at the scheduled hour at 0830 hrs, auspicious sounding of the conch heralded the imminent arrival o...f Lord Sai Vittala, and there came an escorting group of Puneikars in traditional Marata costume, all in their prime youth, dancing to the centre-stage, rocking the holy precincts for the next fifteen minutes with a riveting dance presentation, a fusion of different devotional-dance-traditions of Marata culture. The dance began with a Ganesh Vandana, soon drifted into Marata’s favourite Palki flavour, welcoming the Palki procession of Lord Vittala, resounding the hall with incessant “Jai Jai RamaKrishna Hari” chanting.

The youth is full of unending exuberance and the first 15 minutes of the morning aptly proved this, with the Pune Youth bringing a ‘storm’ at the centre-stage exhibiting all-round talent galore. The presentation with boisterous excitement coupled with devotion literally rocked the house, ably supplemented by a classy multi-media presentation.

Ashadi Ekadashi, one of the most auspicious days in the Maratha vernacular calendar brings the legacy of the Marathas along with the state’s devotional fervour for its Presiding Deity, Lord Vittal Rakumai of Pandarpur. This is the day, when lakhs and lakhs of Varkaris from all parts of the country, especially from the State of Maharashtra throng the spiritual capital of the State, Pandarpur for darshan and blessings of their chosen deity, Vittal Rakumai.

Varkari Sampradaya is a time honoured cult and an important landmark in the colourful history of the State of Maharashtra. History reveals that devotees have been performing Vaari long before the advent of Sant Jnaneshwar in the 13th century.

Flowing on, the combined Maharashtra-Goa Mahila unit then presented a rhythmic stream of devotional music, “Avgha Rang Ek Dhara” singing a wide variety of multi-hued devotionals with expressive interludes of beautiful narration. The songs included a Ganesha number, “Moraya…Moraya…”, “Easwar Ya Allah…”, “O SaiRam Mere Dil Mein Aajaana…”, a soul-stirring plea to Supreme SaiMaa, etc. along with other numbers, in both Marati and Hindi.

Bhajans next ended with Mangala Arathi to Beloved Bhagawan.

"July 4th is Ashadi Ekadasi, or Ashada Devasayani Ekadashi, observed during the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon) in Ashada Month (June – July). Pandarpur Yatra culminates on Ashadi Ekadasi and is of great importance in Maharashtra. The day is of a great significance at the Lord Vithal Temple in Pandarpur.

The Palki of Tukaram Maharaj from Dehu, Palki of Sant Jnaneshwar from Alandi and numerous other Palki (Palanquin) carrying the silver Padukas of various saints arrives at Lord Vithal Temple in Pandarpur on Ashadi Ekadasi after a 21-day journey. Lord Vithal is an incarnation of Lord Krishna and is a popular deity in Marathi culture.

The day is of great significance to the Bhakti cult in Maharashtra. Sant Tukaram and Sant Jnaneshwar two of the great Bhakti exponents in Maharashtra reached the abode of Lord Vitthal in Pandharpur on Ashadi Ekadasi. They had set out on foot around fifteen days before the auspicious day from their villages. Sant Tukaram started from Dehu village near Pune and Sant Jnaneshwar from Alandi. They walked on foot singing the praise of Lord Vithal and reached the shrine on the auspicious day for the darshan of the Lord.

In memory of this pilgrimage, Maharashtrians undertake Dindi Yatra or Pandharpur Yatra by foot to the Pandarpur shrine of Vitthala. The devotees are known Varkaris and they go in a procession carrying the ‘palki’ of Sant Tukaram and Sant Jnaneshwar. (Krishnan Vishwanathan - Whatsapp)"

MAHARASHTRA DEVOTEES WALK TO PUTTAPARTHI
JULY 3, 2017: The devotees from Maharashtra like they make the long walk to Pandharpur to have darshan of Vithala also do the same to visit Puttaparthi to have darshan of "Sai Vithala".
On the auspicious eve of Ashadi Ekadashi, these devotees alight at Dharmavaram Railway station and walk the 45 kilometer stretch dancing, singing His glory filling the air w...ith the Sai Naama right through their journey.

As they go pass the villages they re-charge and re-energise their devotion to every soul they touch. As these devotees march in procession along the road, the passengers in the buses, vans, motor bikes stop till the procession passes, bowing down in obeysiance making a small prayer to Swami to look after their respective lives/families.

Even if they are not Sai devotees, the devotion with which these devotees from Maharashtra& Goa sing His glory will melt every heart and makes one nostalgic about Swami,His mission and the stupendous work done the the Central Trust to the villages.

This year the devotees (called as varkaris) were over 1200 comprising of devotees from age 5 to 85 coming from all corners of Maharashatra & Goa and from various castes and ethnic groups.

Dressed in their traditional attires were few members from Tribes called as Lambada/Sugali who stole the show with their traditional dress with lot of mirror works nicely complimented with special sea shells stitched to their dresses

This year the Sri Sathya Sai Organsation of Pune were incharge of providing food, water and sumptous Maharashtrian food with lots of Rotis, dall, Panneer curries served hot to all the "varkaris" and also shared with the school children where the food is served..

There was a dedicated medical team following the varkaris in case there is any medical emergency. The water supply team comprising of youths were also present making sure no one gets dehydrated and the Maharashtrian Cocoa juice was also served to every one.

The co-operation of the various villages which fall on the way is highly commendable as they go out of their way to look after these devotees when they hault for the night mid way. The villagers look forward to this time of the year, ready to serve the devotees, learn from them.

The Maharashtra and Goa states have really made Swami proud over the years and coming during the times of Swami's physical presence is one thing and coming now in His physical absence, continuing and upholding the tradition which they themselves started is really mind blowing, speaks volumes of their devotion to Swami.

It is also very touching to see big number of youth members which is re-assuring that the Sai movement is very much in safe hands and has a bright future as predicted by Swami innumerable times.

The programmes in Sai Kulwanth Hall by Maharashtra and Goa states was just fantastic to say the least. Under the guidance of Sri. Ramesh Sawanth and Sri. Nimish Pandya and innumerable unsung heros, these two states have maintained a very consistent track record when it comes to excution of Swami's mission.

May Swami continue to guide all of us and may every devotee who took part in dindi yatra be blessed multifolds.
Sharing few photos taken on various locations of the dindi yatra.

ASHADI EVE...
Musical Offering By Pt Srinivas Joshi…

Ashadi Eve got an enlivening musical impetus in Prasanthi today, as accomplished musician and the heir of legendary Bharat Ratna Pt Bhimsen Joshi, Pt Srinivas Joshi enthralled the OmniPresent Supreme Divine serenading Him for over an hour this evening in the hallowed Prasanthi Nilayam. On to the 4th session of the three-day Ashadi Parthi Yatra,... the musical offering this evening by a combined Maharashtra & Goa served as an apt precursor to the holy Ashadi Ekadashi which is just a few hours apart.

Commencing the proceedings at 1700 hrs., the Pandit started off with a Hindustani classical singing "Beeth Gaye..." before drifting into devotional music in varied languages. "Jai Jai RamaKrishna Hari...", the 'soul-beat' of the varkaris and the entire Marata land resounded in profusion with the next piece under the same title, followed by a piece by Master Viraj, serenading the great 'Marata' Saint, St Jnaneshwar, a song popular with Pt Bhimsen Joshi. "Majhe Maher Pandhari..." popular abhang that followed next was a piece on the exalted devotion of the Maratas on Lord Vittala Rakhumai. Master Viraj came up with "Anuraneeyam...", an abhang on St Thukkaram next before a scintillating "Baaje Re Muraliya Baaje..." by the senior artiste. The famous Kannada kriti "Soubhagyata Lakshmi Varamma..." turned out to be a short and sweet entreat to The Divine before the final and concluding piece, a Sai Bhajan, that the legendary Bhimsen Joshi had sung many times in Bhagawan's immediate physical Presence, "Jaya Panduranga Prabho Vittala..."

Pt Srinivas is an artiste who realised his musical calling much later, but never stopped once he found his inner 'musical' calling. This evening, Prasanthi Nilayam witnessed the musical charisma of that heir, of the illustrious, incomparable legend, who rained Prasanthi with golden musical showers. Apt precursor to the Holy Ashadi Ekadashi.

This evening, the artiste was accompanied by Sarvasree Jayant Naidu on Tanpura, Satish Kohli on Harmonium, Sai Chand and Prajapathi on Pakhwaj and Talam alongwith Nishikant Barodekar on Tabla. Master Viraj Joshi, son of Srinivas Joshi, rendered able vocal support.

As bhajans by the Maharashtra & Goa devotees continued, the artiste along with accompanists were felicitated. The session concluded with Mangala Arathi to Bhagawan.

Twameva Saranam Mama… a Musical Presentation On The Bhagavad Gita…

Offering the second day's proceedings of the ongoing Ashadi Parthi Yatra by the twin states of Maharashtra and Goa, Sai Women Youth from the states presented a unique musical treat entitled "Twameva Saranam Mama" at the Sanctum Sanctorum this morning, in Prasanthi Nilayam. Earlier, the session commenced with a series of three shor...t-speeches by selected Sai Women Youth.

Bhagavad Gita, the Song Celestial at the Kurukshetra battlefield, is considered to be the "Greatest Ever Satsangh" happened between man and God and this morning's offering based on the Gita had rare glimpses of the 'Beauty Beyond Compare', touching upon the essence of the teachings presented in snippets, well aided by appropriate skits. Interludes of commentary on the significance of the teachings made the presentation a feasible spiritual treat for the morning assemblage. The session ended with a fervent prayer of surrender to Bhagawan pleading Him to guide in their onward march, singing "Anyatha Saranam Nasthi, Twameva Saranam Mama..."

Earlier, representing the Sai Youth, three women from the state addressed the audience airing their views and versions on Bhagawan and His promised Golden Age delving upon their possible contribution to the Sai Mission. Instead of waiting for His magic wand to wield anticipating a miracle overnight, one can better focus on Bhagawan's Universal Maha Mantra "Samastha Lokah Sukhino Bhavantu", etc, resolving to contribute at least one good attribute to the betterment of society, echoed one of the inspirational speakers. One may resolve to be happy and count his blessings, offering gratitude galore all around. The three speakers also had their share of thrilling personal experiences of His Touch Of Grace. The speakers were Ms Sayieshwari Patil, Ms Rati Venkat and Ms Veena Chenorer.

Bhajans next concluded with Mangala Arathi to Bhagawan.

An Enlivening Dance Evening by Maharashtra & Goa…

A procession by the Sai Youth of Maharasthra & Goa, to a backdrop song of assurance and faith, "Sai Apne Saath Hey... Darne Ki Kya Bath Hey..." meaning Why Fear When Sai Is With Us... marked the 3-day long Ashadi Ekadashi programme by the twin states this evening here, in Prasanthi Nilayam.

Showcasing exuberant enthusiasm and dedication of the S...ai Youth fraternity, hundreds of men and women marched up to the Sanctum Sanctorum with folded hands, offering reverential salutations to the Supreme Divine.

Invoking the 'IshtaDevata' of the twin states, a 'Jai Ganesh' dance number based on Bharat Natyam followed next, bountifully appeasing the GanaPathi with rich attributes, that Divinity richly deserves.

An exhilarating dance session ensued next featured Ghode Modni first, a popular Goan harvest festival dance, followed by a series of lively, vibrant Maharashtrian dance forms. Entitled "LokDhara" the session showcased great artistry, agility and athleticism of the Youth alongside the rich cultural heritage of Maharashtra. Dancing to the rhythmic synchronised rhapsody of varied instruments, namely Dhols and Drums, the session turned out to be an enlivening one, a virtual 'Tal-Rudra' offering at the Sanctum Sanctorum, with 'The Rudra' dancing in the hearts and minds of the packed evening assemblage.

The session continued with bhajans by the Maharashtra/Goa troupe and concluded with Mangala Arathi at 1800 hrs., not before a mellifluous bhajan by the Voice Divine, singing a captivating Rama Rama Rama Sita…

Prasanthi Nilayam Reverberates For Universal Peace...

The dawning hours of Prasanthi was surcharged with high potential vibrations this morning as the twin states of Maharashtra and Goa commenced their three day Ashadi Parthi Yatra in a unique style, undertaking an AtiRudram chanting in the immediate Divine OmniPresence Of The Supreme Shiva-Shakti Avatar, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

Commencin...g shortly before 0630 hrs., the chanting went on beyond 0900 hrs. , with men and women groups taking alternative lead, guiding the proceedings. An estimated 2000 devotees from the states participated in the morning AtiRudram saga.

The special session was in line with Bhagawan's maxim "Samastha Lokah Sukhino Bhavantu" aimed at Universal Peace. Bhajans continued and the session concluded with Mangala Arathi to Bhagawan.

The state troupes will be staging various cultural sessions at the Sanctum Sanctorum in the ensuing days, commencing this evening. Holy Ashadi Ekadashi falls on July 4, Monday.
